The Acutonics Team

Donna Carey, PhD, LAc

Donna is co-founder of the International Institute of Harmonic Living, a new not-for-profit organization with a focus on science, sustainability, and spirituality. She is also co-founder of the Kairos Institute of Sound Healing, creator of the Acutonics® Healing System.

Donna is a licensed acupuncturist, herbalist, sound healer, educator, and poet, trained in western and eastern medicine and the arts. She was Clinical Dean of the Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NIAOM), where she created and administered more than 14 profitable inter-disciplinary community clinics and integrated the Acutonics Healing System into mainstream clinical settings.

A leader in the discovery, development, and application of new healing technologies, Donna was awakened to the power of sound after a near death experience, where she heard the Music of the Spheres. She has been in clinical practice for nearly two decades, creatively integrating sound healing, quantum physics, and energy medicine into her clinical work, teaching, and writing.

Donna is co-author of Acutonics®: There’s No Place Like Ohm, Sound Healing, Oriental Medicine and the Cosmic Mysteries, as well as the forthcoming books, Acutonics®: From Galaxies to Celsl, Planetary Science, Harmony, and Medicine and Sedna: Superconductor. Her poetry collection, Undancing Division: Poetry of Births and Mergers will be published in 2008. Donna is also the co-author with Ellen Franklin of numerous articles that have appeared in leading professional journals.

With a passion for community health that makes alternative therapies available to people regardless of income status, Donna is focusing her efforts on the development of new healing models that will bring integrative therapies to underserved populations. A passionate gardener, Donna is also exploring new approaches for sustainability in the mountains of Northern New Mexico.

Sande McDaniel, Director of Publishing

Sande wins the Kairos award for the longest commute, keeping house in both Chicago and in New Mexico since June 2006. She has been the owner of the Oriental Medicine Journal since 2003, launching with the celebrated 10th Anniversary edition and will continue to publish the journal (www.omjournal.com) while working on all of our in-house graphics needs.

Originally from Jacksonville, Illinois, Sande graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago and owned a typesetting business in Indiana for 15 years. She became a certified Shiatsu practitioner after studying with the International School of Shiatsu in Switzerland and Pennsylvania.

Sande's passion "is life" and if she's not in the office, you can find her hard at work in the garden or on the road to Denver to visit her grandson. Sande is slowly but surely making the transition to become a permanent part of the Llano and the Acutonics community – we are blessed to have her on board.

Patricia Martinez, Manager of Educational Systems and Programs

Originally from Peñasco, Trish comes to Kairos from Albuquerque where she was Director of a La Petite Childcare Center. After three years as a teaching assistant, Trish worked her way up to director. She is a valued member of the Kairos team. Trish and her husband, Dennis, a manufacturing technician at Intel and also a Peñascero, have two children and are looking forward to building their dream home in nearby Vadito.

Elizabeth (Liza) Mascareñas, Executive Assistant

Originally from nearby Vadito, Liza and her family have recently moved back to Peñasco from Rio Rancho where she was a cross-country and track and field coach for six years in the Rio Rancho Public Schools. She also earned an associates degree in Liberal Arts and a certification in Computer Science while living in Albuquerque.

Liza's love for athletics keeps her involved as regional coordinator of the USATF, overseeing five states. She also plays softball and enjoys spending time with her family…husband, Ron and their three daughters and granddaughter.

MichelAngelo, Director of Astrological Medicine & Musical Studies

MichelAngelo is an opera singer, classical composer, pianist, astrologer, healer, teacher, diviner and writer. He has a long-established astrological practice, which features a unique synergy of astrology, divination, sound and Harmonic Medicine.

Jody Hard to Copy, Equine Consultant

Jody is our lead Equine Consultant providing us with great feedback on all of our treatment protocols. A 13-year-old Tennessee Walking Horse, she joined our organization in August of 2002. She is our teacher and propelled us into the development of an Equine Acutonics Program. Injured severely in a freak accident, shortly after her arrival from Kentucky, Ellen used Acutonics to save her life. With support from the local vet to get her through the first critical weeks, Acutonics, lots of wound care, dressing and leg wrapping, a year after her accident, a horse that was close to death, was full of spunk, running freely and being ridden on two hour trail rides in the mountains of Northern New Mexico.

Jody has a warm engaging personality, loves attention, carrots, and other special treats, she is a constant reminder to all of us of the power of will and intention in healing.

Shen Yun, Harmonic Healer & Teacher

Shen Yun joined our organization on Chinese New Year 2004. Her name means Divine Resonance and she embodies this in all that she undertakes. She is extremely excited about sharing her deep love for this medicine with the four-legged community.

Shen has brought so much joy into all of her lives with her incredible personality, deep love for the medicine, and the unconditional love she gives to everyone she meets.
